In a word, Yes! Non-profits cannot go "silent" when the economy goes into a recession. Saving money on printing, postage and other campaign expenses also means that your donors don't hear from you when you need their help the most. Simply having a need isn't going to result in increased donations. What non-profit organizations should do is find ways of working more creatively to excite their donors, and broaden their donor base. Focus on your "mission" and as always, remember to focus on what matters most to your donors - appeal to their needs.
